Detention on remand requested for the defendant due to the drug laboratory in Leposaviq
Mitrovica, February 26, 2024 - The Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica, the Department of Serious Crimes, adjacent to the Basic Court in Mitrovica, submitted a motion for the imposing of detention for the defendant R.V., as there is a well-founded suspicion that he committed the criminal offenses “Production and processing of unauthorized possession of narcotics, psychotropic substances, analogues or tools, equipment or narcotic materials” under article 268 related to articles 31 and 275, and “Cultivation of the hashish plant, cocaine bush or cannabis plants” under article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
The defendant, from an unspecified date until February 24, 2024, at his home in the village of Graniqane in Leposaviqi, without authorization produced, cultivated, processed and extracted or prepared substances and preparations that were declared as narcotics or psychotropic substances, in that way that the defendant in his house has adapted two rooms into a laboratory using various types of equipment where he has managed to cultivate and produce different narcotic plants.
During the police search of the defendant's house, twenty-three (23) pots containing suspected cannabis plants, each measuring 80.185 cm in length, were discovered. Additionally, an electric lamp designed for heating, a temperature-regulating heater, aluminum foil, and equipment for the cultivation of narcotic plants were found stored in one of the rooms. In another room, signs of burning were observed, along with burnt equipment used for cultivating narcotic plants.
The defendant, by the decision of the state prosecutor, is in detention on remand from January 24, 2024.
The hearing for imposing the detention measure against the defendant is expected to be held today, Monday, at the Basic Court in Mitrovica.
