A roundtable held in Mitrovica as part of the Crime Victims’ Rights Week
Mitrovica, October 27, 2022 - A roundtable with inter-institutional partners held today in Mitrovica, with the motto “Moment of reflection by the institutional chain” within the frame of the week marking the rights of crime victims, organized by the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor.
The Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica Ismet Ujkani led this table, and the participants were representatives of the prosecution office, the court, the police, the office for assistance and advocacy to victims, sheltering institutions, non-governmental organizations, etc.
According to Chief Prosecutor Ujkani, the purpose of organizing this table is for each institution to reflect on the undertaking of all actions, so that the victims of crime have the appropriate services and offered justice.
According to Chief Prosecutor Ujkani, the commitment of all institutions responsible for the protection of victims of crime should not be lacking. Perpetrators of crimes must be punished, while to the victims of crime their rights must be guaranteed - the right to receive protection and shelter, the right to be treated with respect and dignity, the right to receive compensation and damages, and other rights under the law.
A prosecutor from the United States of America was also a participant at the table, who shared his experiences from his work as a prosecutor, which will be useful for law enforcement institutions in Kosovo.
At the end of the discussions, it was agreed that conclusions will be drawn which will serve to increase the efficiency when dealing with these sensitive cases for society.
