Reaction of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council regarding the articles published on social networks by the director of the medium "Nacionale", Berat Buzhala
Prishtinë, 20 April 2023 – The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) reacts to the insulting and defamatory language that has been used for some time by the director of the "Nacionale" medium, Berat Buzhala, towards the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi.
The Prosecutorial Council emphasizes that through defamation, the director of "Nacionale" is trying to unfairly tarnish the personality, integrity and professionalism of the Acting Chief State Prosecutor Kelmendi.
The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council of emphasizes that this series of writings belongs to the ranks of malicious defamation against the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, because it is a well-known fact that the Albanian administration workers in the courts and the prosecution offices to which Mr. Kelmendi worked on the basis of the request of the Albanian political subjects of that time, where the main role was played by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), thus being in full service of the popular cause of that time for freedom and independence from the Serbian regime.
Moreover, the KPC emphasizes, as it has emphasized on other occasions, that the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Mr. Besim Kelmendi has been appointed to this position as a result of the evaluation and support of all members of the KPC, to exercise this duty until the decree of the new Chief State Prosecutor, in which case the integrity and purity of his figure has been evaluated. For the sake of fairness, the Acting Chief State Prosecutor Kelmendi has never run for the position of Chief State Prosecutor and has no such intentions.
The Prosecutorial Council, in this case, assesses that based on what the journalist Buzhala wrote, there is a tendency to disrupt the prosecutorial system, but these efforts will fail, because the KPC and the institution of the State Prosecutor are unique in the exercise of their constitutional and uncompromising duties in strengthening the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo.
KPC informed the public opinion that the Acting Chief State Prosecutor will use the legal channels to address the competent court with a lawsuit for the defamation made by the director of the "Nacionale" newspaper.”
