Prishtina, March 16, 2020 - The Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksander Lumezi, holds an introductory meeting with the new EULEX Chief, Lars – Gunnar Wigemark.
Initially, Chief State Prosecutor Lumezi congratulated Wigemark for his new position as EULEX Chief, where he considered the role of this mission in monitoring the work of judicial institutions important, with particular emphasis on the prosecutorial system. In this context, the need to promote cooperation and joint efforts to strengthen the rule of law in the Republic of Kosovo was discussed.
Also, Chief Prosecutor Lumezi briefed the EULEX Chief on the work and determination of the State Prosecutor in prosecuting all forms of crime, as well as on the challenges and objectives of this institution aimed at strengthening the prosecutorial system and establishing citizens’ trust in the institutions of justice.
Furthermore, the Chief State Prosecutor during this meeting briefed the EULEX Chief on integration and work in the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica, which is a good example of multiethnic, interpersonal and inter-collegial functioning.
On the other hand, the Head of EULEX, Lars - Gunnar Wigemark, expressed the willingness that within the mandate of the EULEX mission, to back and support the work of the Chief State Prosecutor and all prosecutors in promoting the rule of law.
The two interlocutors also discussed issues related to legislative reforms and their progress. They also considered necessary the deepening of inter-institutional cooperation in issues related to war crimes, missing persons and international legal cooperation.
